JUDE in JUNE - Part 2
What in the world does Ebenezer Scrooge have to do with the book of Jude? Tune in to find out!
We continued the second part of JUDE in JUNE last Sunday. Verses 5-16 to be exact. Pastor Luke did an amazing job helping us understand more about the context of which Jude was writing about.
1. False teachers of the past
2. False teachers of the present
3. False teachers of the future
Church, we must be diligent and aware as we move on in the 21st century... 'There's no such time as this"!
Stay tuned for Sunday as we continue with the last of this series of expository (verse by verse) teaching from Pastor Luke via Jude!

Worship through Music
We're continuing a weekly series on the workings of our Sunday Liturgy here at Carson Valley Bible Church!
This week and next week, we're exploring how we choose the music for each service's Liturgy. We're fortunate to have a guest author this week, none other than our Worship leader, Glenn Orr -
"Following the Call to Worship, where our attention is drawn to God in all his glory, we move to an immediate corporate response in singing a song of adoration. This is where we as a congregation get to sing to God how great he is and how much we love him. This first song is selected with this in mind.
In general we want the songs we sing during our liturgy to be theologically accurate, substantial, interesting musically, easy to sing along with, and not associated with theologically questionable churches or organizations. It's not our intention to sing the most popular current worship songs. We have a specific purpose in mind for each song we choose, each fills a particular place in our liturgy, and we want as the end result God to be glorified and our church body to be encouraged and edified". ... Glenn
Oh come, let us sing to the LORD; let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation! Let us come into his presence with thanksgiving; let us make a joyful noise to him with songs of praise! - Psalms 95:1-2
Weekly Prayer Group
We are blessed to have this prayer time every week, Wednesdays, during lunch hour from 12:15pm to 12:45pm.
This is an informal, drop-in prayer time, to pray for the needs of our church.
If you need more information, see us at the Connect Desk on Sunday, or contact Julie at firstname.lastname@example.org for more information.
We are already seeing what God is going to do through this special time!
What's your story?
Have you been seeing this slide recently at church?
Well, the secret's out!
We will be producing some short stories on video to share with our church! These are YOUR stories - testimonies, or comments about what CVBC means to you.
We'll be showing these throughout the summer. First up, Luke and Gina! However, we wanted to open up this opportunity to all of you who call CVBC your church home.
It's going to be a fun way to get to know one another, and this (eternal) bond we have in Christ's family!
If you'd like to share, we are putting together 2 dates to film, right here at church (tba). Just contact me here at email@example.com to get your name on the list!
CVBC Membership Meeting
Sunday, July 17th will be our next Covenant Members Business Meeting. Put it on your calendar and join us after church!
Men's and Women's Bible Studies
Both Friday am studies are on break for the summer! We'll see you back here September 9th!
Have a GREAT summer!
July Work Force
This is Luke.
Luke has the (work) Force.
Be like Luke.
The (work) force shall be upon us next month...
We need you to join us!
We're looking for helpers who can assist us in doing some building maintenance - we have a list of things to accomplish over the summer. We're even renting a scizzor lift (for an entire week) to reach those 'sky high' projects (since we don't have a Jedi Starfighter - yet).
We will be confirming the exact dates, but as of now it will be the second or third week of July, beginning on Thursday that week.
So, if you're willing to pick up your light saber, let us know - either at the Connect Desk on Sunday, or email me here at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Featured song for this Sunday's service
Glenn, our music ministry leader, had a great thought this week! We're going to post the lyrics to a song we're doing the coming weekend. This week, we're featuring a new song to us - called "Come to Jesus (Rest in Him)" co-written by Jordan Kauflin and Matthew Merker. We've done a few songs by this duo - and this one will be just as special, and easy for all of us to learn!
Are you weary heavy laden, Come and lay your burdens down
Jesus calls you, Jesus draws you, Rest in Him
He is gentle He is lowly, He delights to bring us peace
Tender shepherd mighty Savior, Rest in Him
Are you hopeless are you guilty, Caught in shame for all your sin
He pursues you to forgive you - Rest in Him
He has paid for every failure, Mercy flows in endless streams
Come and follow freedom calls you, Rest in Him
How sure His compassion for us,
Oh how deep is His love,
So come come to Jesus and rest in Him
Come to Jesus, and rest in Him
CVBC Community Groups
Looks like one of our Community Groups will be taking a break for the summer. BUT - have no fear - we have one that is continuing! AND - we are ramping up a couple of new groups for fall!
If you need more information, contact email@example.com.
In the meantime, another way to connect with us here at CVBC is to join us weekly for our prayer group on Wednesdays from 12:15 to 12:45. We'd love to have you!
Tuesday Nite Co-Ed Bible Study
Tuesday June 28th will be the final bible study until September!
Stay tuned for a fall start date - and thanks for being a part of this group!
... thoughts from the Narrow Gate
As you know, last weekend was Father's day Sunday. After sharing last week about my parents, I thought I'd use this platform to share what happened this week!
A very cool thing that happened that morning on my way to church... it's no joke!
As I was making my way through the round-a-bout by McDonalds, wondering why there was a round-a-bout there (lol), I looked over in the parking lot and there it was.
I'd forgotten about it being Father's Day after I left for church. But there it was, right in front of me.
My dad's first car - I couldn't believe my eyes. It was the 'purple onion' as he called it. A '42 Ford coupe - this one was fully restored - and my pop would have LOVED it.
He had an affinity for cars (yes, fast ones) and planes (yes, fast ones). We went to many a car show, American Graffiti cruises, and yes, even Reno Air Races. So I get my love for fast things from my poppa!
So, I went around the round-a-bout again, to go into the parking lot and take this picture. The coupe on the bottom part of this picture is his original 'purple onion'.
As I left, I thanked God for allowing me to see this blessing. Yes, it felt like my poppa was letting me know he is thinking of me. But what I really know is that God Himself is thinking of me - and that He has all things handled, including my poppa and mom.
I've prayed once in awhile in my life that I wouldn't miss things that God wants me to see. It is my prayer for all of us...
I'm so thankful I didn't miss that one - that was a good one, Jesus!
Job 36:24. 'Remember to extol his work, which people have praised in song'.
Just a few thoughts through Narrow Gate this week - looking forward to seeing all of you Sunday!
'Till He comes again,
