We heard from Justin Krische as he brought the message the Gospel Driven Church for All People last Sunday!
Justin pointed out the text in Acts 16:11-34 outlined three people; Lydia, the slave girl, and the jailer. An interesting combination, indeed. Dr. Luke recorded these events for a purpose. The Gospel Driven Church back then was about ALL people - all were touched by the apostles, but even more so by the Holy Spirit. In verse 34, the jailer's life changes so much that he brings the apostles into his house, sets food before them and "rejoiced greatly, having believed in God with his whole household", which meant more than just his immediate family.
Justin makes the point how being Gospel Driven really only means exactly that - he quoted Paul in 1 Corinthians 2:2, who tells the corinthian church "For I determined to know nothing amojng you except Jesus Christ, and Him crucified". A very simple statement - and our goal at CVBC.

Song of Response to the Sermon
We're continuing the weekly series on the workings of our Sunday Liturgy here at Carson Valley Bible Church!
This week we are looking at the song we sing in response to the teaching of each Sunday's Liturgy, just after the sermon.
"The song of response allows us (in the congregation) to actively respond to what we have just heard. We have been sitting listening passively for 30-40 minutes. This song gives us a chance to connect to the message in a personal and active way. With this in mind, we try to find a song that echoes some or all of the themes of the message. We hope this song is playing in our minds and hearts as we leave the service and go about our lives".
Weekly Prayer Group
We are blessed to have this prayer time every week, Wednesdays, during lunch hour from 12:15pm to 12:45pm.
This is an informal, drop-in prayer time, to pray for the needs of our church.
If you need more information, see us at the Connect Desk on Sunday, or contact Julie at firstname.lastname@example.org for more information.
We are already seeing how God is working through this special time!
Acts 1:14... They all joined together constantly in prayer, along with the women and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brothers.
Featured song for this Sunday's service
"There is One Gospel"
We're continuing to share the lyrics to a chosen song throughout the summer, compliments of our Music Ministry.
This week, we feel pretty lucky to have David back on the keys for the music portion of our Liturgy. We're also pretty lucky to have the best backup singers ever, YOU! Pastor Luke said last week our music ministry might be small - but we are all LOUD in our praise to the King! Sing out with us, church!
This week, we're featuring a new song which we can't wait to sing with you. It's CityAlight's "There is One Gospel". Recently written and released in 2022 by Johnny Robinson and Rich Thompson, this is an easy song to learn, but oh, so appropriate for our Gospel Driven Church series!
The band writes "When writing this track our aim was to provide a means for unifying believers around the world in the singing of our shared gospel, handed down to us from the apostles, made possible for us by the saving work of Jesus. Whether you are in a small group, with your own church, or gathered with a diverse crowd of believers, we hope that this song will unify hearts and minds around the great truths of the gospel on which we all stand." We say, Amen brothers and sisters!
Get ready to have some fun this Sunday! Here are the lyrics:
There is one Gospel on which I stand
There is one Gospel to which I cling
There is one Gospel where hope is found
And in this Gospel the church is one

Men's August Breakfast Grub & Range Time
Saturday, August 6th, 2022
Ok, you heard it from Harry on Sunday. The next Men's Breakfast is on Saturday August 6 at 0800 hrs. Carlos is preparing something 'gourmet', and it's only $2 a carload to the Range. No, it's not a drive in movie, but it sounds like you can still save some $ by jumping in the trunk like the 'old days'. Yes, we're kidding...
You are welcome to come to breakfast only, but we are hoping most will go to the range together! Bring your guns and ammo, or just come anyway, as we will have plenty to share. Ken said he's still looking for target holders too. :)
See you all then.
Harry, Ken and Carlos
All that is missing is "U"
... thoughts from the Narrow Gate
I was lucky to have lunch with a few CVBC comrades after church on Sunday. I always appreciate those invites - I adore this church family! So, as we were eating, someone noticed my bracelet. They specifically noticed that it was missing something. Let me tell you about it!
Ladies, do you remember the Italian Charm bracelets? I, for the life of me, couldn't remember what name they gave these things! They were popular in the later 90's, where you could add custom tiles to link together. This was before the Pandora bracelets became popular. Anyway, (yikes, that was over 20 years ago and some would call it vintage :) I took off the bracelet and handed it to them to look at.
I remember my mom and other family members would buy eachother a tile, or charm I suppose, to add to each other's bracelets. It was pretty fun! Whatever happened to charm bracelets anyway??
So, my mom started my bracelet, with 5 charms that Christmas, and each charm had one letter on each one of them. You might have guessed it - she did a J., a E., a S., a U., and an S. Over the next couple of years, we all added more and would compare them. Just like other charm bracelets, each one had a story. I have the Flag, 3 birthstones for my kids, a horse one, well a couple horse ones, and more.
Well, at lunch they noticed it was missing one of the letters. What's even more of this story, is that a few weeks ago I had worn this to church and was listening to the message and looking at it, remembering all the stories. I think it was the weekend we began the Gospel Driven Church series we are doing now. Interestingly enough, Luke was talking about how the first 'church' began in Acts chapter 4, and how the apostles did everything together, and invited everyone to believe and be a part of the early church.
Then I saw it. It was the letter U! Looking back, that letter U came off that tile a very long time ago. I'm not sure, but it certainly 'went missing' when I was going through some pretty tough times, and stopped going to church for awhile. As I looked intently at it, all I could think about is how I was the letter U. I was the one that was missing (from church) - have you ever known anyone that can be that U? Well, I do. It was me.
I'm so humbled to know that He never gave up on me. He knew I was missing, he knows there are many of us 'missing'. If you know the same God I do, He gives the grace, and possibly the circumstances, for us to be found.
I believe our duty now is to find another missing "U", and to restore more people by sharing nothing other than the Gospel - Just like Justin preached about last Sunday. How? simply by sharing Jesus Christ, and Him crucified (1 Cor 2:2).
I'll make you a deal - we'll go out and find some missing "U"'s together. Deal?
Just a few thoughts through Narrow Gate this week - looking forward to seeing all of you Sunday!
