Previous Sunday Sermon Recap"Be A Worshipper" Last Sunday was the first in a series of 4 weeks of what God wants us to BE. "Be a Worshipper" rightly comes first! Pastor Luke nails this in multiple ways. To begin with, we explored: What is: 1. True worship 2. False worship 3. CVBC worship Our text was the very last chapter of Psalms - 150 - which is so appropriate! After 149 chapters of this wonderful book in the old Testament, the Psalms ends with: 1 Praise the Lord! Praise God in his sanctuary; praise him in his mighty heavens! 2 Praise him for his mighty deeds; praise him according to his excellent greatness! 3 Praise him with trumpet sound; praise him with lute and harp! 4 Praise him with tambourine and dance; praise him with strings and pipe! 5 Praise him with sounding cymbals; praise him with loud clashing cymbals! 6 Let everything that has breath praise the Lord! Praise the Lord! Arguably the best chapter in the Bible, Pastor Luke brings light to this unlike you've ever heard. Who was the perfect Worshipper? If you guessed Jesus, you guessed right! It's His example that is noteworthy - He was the only person ever who did not fall into idolatry. We have to know Who we are worshipping - we have to know what Worship is - we have to know what Worship is not - and we hear how CVBC is encouraged to worship. There's not enough room in this Newsletter to give the details - you need to hear this, and more than once! Happy Mothers Day!
We can't let this Sunday go by without wishing all the moms a Happy Mothers Day! For me, it brings back bittersweet memories of taking my own mom out on her special day. It may bring others these memories too - that said, once a year we can remember and be thankful that this day is not only about moms, it's about family. And if you are reading this, you are family! Ephesians 3:14-16 "For this reason I bow my knees before the Father, from whom every family in heaven and on earth is named, that according to the riches of his glory he may grant you to be strengthened with power through his Spirit in your inner being" ... Community Groups
Our church family is continuing to grow in Christ, and in our relationships with each other. If you'd like to be a part of that, come and join one! Right now there are 3 groups, getting bigger by the minute, which means yes! We will have to add another! :) If you're not plugged into one, we are praying you are able to do so. Jesus taught us having regular fellowship with other believers is so beneficial. There is a group for all schedules, even bi-weekly. Try one out - you won't be disappointed! These groups are weekly or bi-weekly that meet to discuss the previous sermons being taught at CVBC. Held at CVBC member's homes, or at the church due to weather lately! Here is the schedule... Wednesdays This Community Group meets at 6:00pm in the Foothill and Waterloo Road area. This group meets every other week. Thursdays Both of these groups meet in the Minden area at 6:00pm. One meets every week, the other meets every other week. These groups are special and always open for new attendees! What is a Bible Church?
At CVBC, we always want to be able to give an answer as to what we believe, and why. One way we've accomplished that is through the adoption of the "The 1689 Baptist Confession of Faith". It's important to our Leadership/Eldership here at CVBC, and good for us to be reminded not only what we believe, but what is taught here. This full document is also available on our website in the About Us tab - here is a link: https://www.carsonvalleybiblechurch.com/about/our-beliefs Thus, a quick revisit to what's been established. And, an answer therefore, for anyone needing to be able to identify with (or share!) what we believe at CVBC! "The Holy Scriptures are the only sufficient, certain, and infallible standard of all saving knowledge, faith, and obedience. The light of nature and the works of creation and providence so clearly demonstrate the goodness, wisdom, and power of God that people are left without excuse; however, these demonstrations are not sufficient to give the knowledge of God and his will that is necessary for salvation. Therefore, the Lord was pleased at different times and in various ways to reveal himself and to declare his will to his church. To preserve and propagate the truth better and to establish and comfort the church with greater certainty against the corruption of the flesh and the malice of Satan and the world, the Lord put this revelation completely in writing. Therefore, the Holy Scriptures are absolutely necessary, because God’s former ways of revealing his will to his people have now ceased." This incredible document is also available at the Connect Desk. This is who and what we are at CVBC. Everything we do revolves around the Bible. We can do nothing apart of it. And that, is a Bible Church! 1 Peter 3:15 "but in your hearts honor Christ the Lord as holy, always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and respect" |

Featured song for this Sunday's service
"A Mighty Fortress" Wow! This one has been fun to research - originally written in 1527 by Martin Luther himself. It's based on Psalm 46. We've learned there are actually 7 different theories as to how this hymn came about, but it first appeared in a hymnal in 1533. Feel free to read Tim Challis' interesting blog here - but there are many more stories to search for, as this hymn is actually known as the "Battle Hymn of the Reformation." https://www.challies.com/articles/hymn-stories-a-mighty-fortress-is-our-god/ A mighty Fortress is our God, Did we in our own strength confide, And though this world, with devils filled, That word above all earthly powers,

Worship with a capital W!... thoughts from the Narrow Gate When I was a baby christian back in the 90's after re-dedicating my life and walk with Him, I thought worship mostly meant music. Like the kind at concerts, where you raise your hands and have the 'cool' posture that it was back then. They used to have big 3 day concerts named Spirit West Coast in CA, and we went one year and camped out in the camp trailer there. We saw some amazing bands. Names like Jars of Clay, Chris Tomlin, Michael W. Smith, Newsboys, David Crowder and more. That was a great time praising the Lord with other believers, singing together, breaking bread together, all that. That was great worship, I thought. Then I learned what Worship with a capital W was. And it had nothing to do with music. My marriage was in trouble, and my husband left and went home to Canada. I was devastated, as we were very involved in the church, even in marriage ministry as 'table leaders', etc. The couple mentoring us were confused, as was I, and it seemed everyone else was too. After a few weeks, they asked me to step out of the weekly class. Then people stopped talking to me, and it went downhill from there. For a 3,000 member church, I was alone. I still went, as the kids' youth pastor was a great 'preacher man', full of knowledge and grace. He would always talk to me if I needed it. In a big church, it's easy to get lost, so I was one of those that fell through the cracks, so to speak. In their defense, I know that no one there knew what to do with me. The looks on people's faces though! Thats when I knew it was time to take a break. I didn't know what I would do or where to go. It didn't matter right then. One night, not too long after my husband left, it was after dark and I had walked out back where the horses were, and walked into the sand arena. I remember laying down on my back, the sand still warm from the summer day. I looked up. I saw so many stars that I had never seen before. Then it began to come to me. "He determines the number of the stars; he gives to all of them their names." Psalm 137:4 "Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?" Matt 6:26 "O Lord, you have searched me and known me! You know when I sit down and when I rise up; you discern my thoughts from afar. You search out my path and my lying down and are acquainted with all my ways." Psa 139:1-3 And so many more - verse by verse. I was experiencing real Worship, right there. In the midst of the unknown, in my pain, betrayal, rejected by my church, there were so many things I had felt. But as I lay there, looking up, I had learned the truth. I had God's Word written on my heart. In spite of all that mess, I was not forgotten. And if nothing else, I was experiencing that - by seeing all these stars that were named. If they were named, if the birds of the air are fed, and my thoughts are known, the God of the Universe was there with me. And I was going to Worship Him in ways I could never imagine. Right then, right there. It's so important to know Who we are Worshipping. Or what. And to conciously make a choice to throw everything, everyone, all the stuff, out, and Worship the true and only King. Worship in Spirit and in Truth. You will never be the same...
