Previous Sunday Sermon Recap"Be in Community" Last Sunday was the second in a series of 4 weeks of what God wants us to BE. "Be in Community" follows right behind being a Worshipper! After all, "where there is worship, there is community!" Pastor Luke explored multiple passages of text for this sermon: 1. Hebrews 10:23-25 2. Acts 2:42-47 3. John 13:34-35 He also laid out three concepts of community: 1. What - is community? 2. Need - what is the need for community? 3. Effects - what are the effects of being in community? This is a great sermon to follow up in the "BE" series! For those of us in Community Groups, this message is especially good! For those that are not, please join us! Community Groups
Our church family is continuing to grow in Christ, and in our relationships with each other. If you'd like to be a part of that, come and join one! Right now there are 3 groups, getting bigger by the minute, which means yes! We will have to add another! :) If you're not plugged into one, we are praying you are able to do so. Jesus taught us having regular fellowship with other believers is so beneficial. There is a group for all schedules, even bi-weekly. Try one out - you won't be disappointed! These groups are weekly or bi-weekly that meet to discuss the previous sermons being taught at CVBC. Held at CVBC member's homes, or at the church due to weather lately! Here is the schedule... Wednesdays This Community Group meets at 6:00pm in the Foothill and Waterloo Road area. This group meets every other week. Thursdays Both of these groups meet in the Minden area at 6:00pm. One meets every week, the other meets every other week. These groups are special and always open for new attendees! For more information, address, etc., please reach out to us here at the church - we'll direct you to your new best place to be during the week! admin@carsonvalleybiblechurch.com. Lifetime Achievement!
We like to periodically take moments to recognize some of our church members who serve our communities and in turn, are recognized by their peers. This time, we are celebrating a Lifetime Achievement award! Last friday, Sandy Wartgow, RN won a very prestigous award and for many good reasons! She's been a registered nurse for 37 years, now serving as EMS Division Chief for Carson City Fire. With over 100 nominations for this award, of which the "category is reserved for nurses who have demonstrated outstanding achievement in nursing for 25 years or more, with at least 10 of the years being in Northern Nevada. Eligible nurses must also demonstrate significant contributions to nursing in Northern Nevada." A career worthy of celebrating! But even more, her generous and giving heart as our sister in Christ. We can think of no better words than Congratulations - well done, good and faithful servant! Make sure you say congratulations next time you see her :) |

NBCC Update
What is NBCC? You may have heard about NBCC previously here at CVBC - here is an update on this new ministry! The Nevada Bibilical Counseling Center (NBCC) is gaining ground - meaning the website is up, 501(c) 3 is in place, and plans are coming together to offer this important ministry some space - right here at CVBC! This ministry will be able to provide much-needed counseling in the Carson Valley, unlike ever before. CVBC has even partnered with NBCC as a local missions organization to provide biblical counseling to our church members and community at large. We are excited as we see churches come together and realize that the Word of God is not just the best counsel, it's the gateway to the best Counselor since the beginning of time. In short, Nevada Biblical Counseling Center seeks to bring the truth of God’s Word into the lives of sinful, suffering, and struggling people in Northern Nevada. As Christians, we believe that God’s Word not only tells us about God, but it tells us about ourselves and how God wants us to deal with our problems. Biblical counseling, then, is the wise, skillful, careful, and compassionate use of Scripture to help people deal with their problems according to God’s Word. Right now, there are three churches who are involved in the planning and implementing process. Fellowship Bible Church in Carson, CVBC and Grace Bible Church in Fallon - This last Saturday at the marriage conference NBCC had a booth set up with many resources/books on marriage which were enjoyed by many! If you would like to know more, please visit the website below. |

Marriage Conference News
Last Saturday's Conference was well attended - but the content of the Conference was extraordinary! Mike and Jill Rosario of Grace Bible Church in Fallon were our guests. Pastor Rosario gave some incredible insight to God's design for marriage - and that design doesn't begin with a man and wife. It begins with His design for a relationship with US - those whom He created - in His image. The sessions were filled with what a six week class would be like! We were able to record the second half and the Q&A session. If you would like to hear those, email admin@carsonvalleybiblechurch.com and we will send you the link! ~ Marriage Conference 2023 ~

Featured song for this Sunday's service
This week, we will be led by one of our favorite friends around - Ben Eddis! Your regular worship team will be having a week off - we thank them so much for their service! "Blessed Assurance" Fanny Crosby (1820-1915), blind at the age of six weeks, was a lifelong Methodist who began composing hymns at age six. She became a student at the New York Institute of the Blind at age 15 and joined the faculty of the Institute at 22, teaching rhetoric and history. In 1885, Crosby married Alexander Van Alstyne, also a student at the Institute and later a member of the faculty. He was a fine musician and, like Fanny, a lover of literature. An author of more than 8,000 gospel hymn texts, she drew her inspiration from her own faith. Learn more here: https://www.umcdiscipleship.org/resources/history-of-hymns-blessed-assurance. The lyrics below fit in to CVBC liturgies so well - since the Gospel is what we want to share with you! Blessed assurance, Jesus is mine!
Oh, what a foretaste of glory divine! Heir of salvation, purchase of God Born of his Spirit, washed in His blood This is my story, this is my song
Praising my Savior all the day long This is my story, this is my song Praising my Savior all the day long Perfect submission, perfect delight
Visions of rapture now burst on my sight Angels descending bring from above Echoes of mercy, whispers of love This is my story, this is my song
Praising my Savior all the day long This is my story, this is my song
Praising my Savior all the day long Praising my Savior all the day long Another truth filled hymn - of which our guest Ben Eddis truly loves! ... Your worship team! CCLI# 11519802

You are...... thoughts from the Narrow Gate We learned alot about Community last weekend, what it is, why it is, and who and what it is for. When I think of community, I automatically go to "town", our literal community. But this week, I was challenged in a new way to think about community. The Creator created this concept. Why? He designed us to be in community with Him. Spending our precious time with Him comes first. How do we commune with our God? What does our own personal community with God look like? This valley provides so many ways to commune with God. Just look at our surroundings. In fact, even people that don't believe in Christ even say that is "their church", and they go spend time in it. That is one way to have community with our Maker. The One Who created it. And He deserves all the glory for that! But I have to ask, what is another, immediate way to commune with God. You can do it anywhere, you don't have to climb a mountain, or put the boat in the water, or grab a pair of skiis and travel to the chair lifts. You don't even have to leave your house. This week, I'm going to now challenge you, my friends... (and by the way, thank you for the encouraging words about the Narrow Gate last week :) The challenge is to grab your BIBLE. Have quiet, communal time with your Lord. Every day. That is what our God desires first. You, and Him. The rest of the message last weekend is only a result of what I am challenging you all to do. Everything else naturally flows out of being in community with our King. Let me know if you need somewhere to go, in this big giant Bible that God left for us to get to know Him. Sometimes it's overwhelming and I get it. So let me know if you struggle with that, and I may be able to help you. Remember the famous Nike' saying? "Just Do It" And you friends, will be unexpectedly blessed... Till He comes again, Julie "Fear is not my future - You Are" Brandon Lake and Chandler Moore: https://youtu.be/_9xhASFbizA |
